San Diego Comic Con 2011 – The Best Of

Yay! It’s so good to be home! We took so many pictures this weekend I’ll try and limit this to some of my favorites:

(Hellraiser to the right: wow!)

First damaged trooper I’ve ever seen. Wait for the closeup:

AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Nightmares!

2 cutest girls all weekend.

Add your own caption:

Okay, this may be missed if I don’t point it out: it’s all in the details!

For you Dr. Who fans: also featuring these amazing remote-controlled hovering sharks!

Yes.

This is me the day I went in costume. On second thought, perhaps I should have shaved.

Sexiest storm trooper there. Period.

Extra points if you know who these two are.

This costume is all cardboard and papier mache. (?!)

Okay, here’s the real me, in my teeny corner of the nerd universe:

Oops.. I just meant to post a few photos but I got really carried away! If you want to see more pictures, see the whole gallery here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/stasiab/sets/72157627290246882/

The 2010 San Diego Comicon!

I just got back yesterday from the weekend in San Diego selling copies of the Virgin Project Vol 1 and 2 with Kevin Boze and John Lustig. This was my first time to the world’s largest comic convention, but it looks like it won’t be the last. We had such a great time that we’re signed up for next year, hopefully with a bigger booth, more books (we sold out), and possibly some cute girl prints and cards. I would go again just for the people watching and costumes. Here are some of the standouts. There are many more pictures on facebook, here.

Yvonne, this picture is for you.

Our booth: John Lustig of Last Kiss Comics, me and Kevin Boze.

Me nerding out on the fact that someone decided I qualified as a “professional”

True story! This happened the morning of day three, so we had plenty of time to walk around and peoplewatch.

Yes, please.

Kevin took this picture; all credit goes to him for this one – probably the most striking picture on my camera.

This guy was by far the best Link I saw at the convention.

One of several epic hallway battles

This was the happiest encounter ever! Grant Imahara, from the Mythbusters.

If someone knows who these lovely ladies are dressed up as, please let me in on the secret!

EDIT: It looks like they’re from the videogame: Katamari – thank you!

We’re indebted to our hosts for the duration of the show, who took the best care of us – packed us lunches, and even made us a cake our last night in the city!

We’re in the Seattle Stranger!

Kevin and I were lucky enough to have Paul Constant as a guest at our VP2 release party, and he wrote up a very nice piece in the Party Crasher section of the Stranger Weekly. I’m so pleased!!

Virgin Project Vol. 2 Release! (and an excellent weekend)

Nick and I spent the weekend in Seattle to celebrate the fresh-off-the-press release of the Virgin Project Vol. 2!! Get yours here: Virgin Project 2!

Kevin and Grace threw an awesome book release party full of friends, family, Caribbean food and free-flowing wine. I got to meet some great people including Donna Barr, creator of the Desert Peach series, who wrote a wonderful review of the book here.

Kevin and I hosted a workshop at the Seattle Erotic Art Festival on Saturday, talked about the processes of story-collecting, editing, publication, and the social implications.

Later that evening we attended the Cartoonist’s Northwest Toonie Award Banquet.

“Authors KD Boze and Stasia Kato were honored to be recognized as Cartoonists of the Year for The Virgin Project at the annual awards ceremony of Cartoonists Northwest on May 1. They shared the Golden Toonie Award with Mark Monlux of Stick Man and Comic Critic fame . The Virgin Project also was named the Graphic Novel of the Year. And KD Boze also received the 2009 Best of the Northwest Award for individual cartoons. Thanks to all of our CNW friends!”

Virgin Project 2 spoiler!!

This is the final cover of the book that will be in bookstores early May!!! This handsome beast, of course, goes along with the vixen on VP1, and I’m sure they’ll make a splendid pair together. All of the pages are inked and finished, and the first copies will be available at this year’s Seattle Erotic Art Festival!
