This was yesterday’s project, a 2’x3.5′ ink drawing on a scrap of canvas, modeled after the ukiyo-e prints of Japan. I spent a long time trying to find a good reference picture of someone holding a sword convincingly, and after all that ended up asking Nicholas to pose with our katana and act like he knew what he was doing. So… thank you Nick!
The original intention for this piece was to plaster it with cut-out flowers as a kind of ironic declaration of “I’m a badass samurai about to kill you, but I’m actually very fragile and sensetive once you get to know me.” I haven’t decided whether I want to go ahead and tackle the flowers again, or if I’d rather paint this one. We’ll see.
